We study the mammals that form the foundations of both biodiversity economies and tropical forest ecosystems in the Amazon.
Research program
Our work combines ecological monitoring, participatory methods, and spatial analysis. Much of it has grown through a long-term partnership with the Indigenous Maijuna people of the Peruvian Amazon, whose conservation priorities shape the questions we ask.
We study hunting behavior, spatial refuges, population recovery, and sustainable harvest to understand when game mammal populations can persist.
02We investigate animal behavior, soils, species interactions, and the importance of mineral licks as ecological hotspots across Amazonian forests.
03We trace supply chains, urban consumption, food security, and conservation outcomes to understand how wildlife supports local economies and communities.
